So, I was I think 22 when I first slammed my first 20 ounce Java at Calypso’s.  That was many years before we actually moved to Coeur d’Alene. I think I had been through Coeur d’Alene over two dozen times before becoming a CDA resident, and Calypso’s was always a part of every return visit.  It’s funny when you’re a road-tripping vagabond who started a business out of a Jeep, you have the uncanny ability to identify the best hangouts in every town you frequently pass through.  Calypso’s is just a very comfortable, relaxing place where all walks of life and personalities gather.  The environment is very conducive to work, study and social meet-ups.  It’s a fond memory every time I visit.

The Food –  Calypso’s is known primarily as a coffee shop with killer coffee in a ‘like-home’ atmosphere ideal for both fun and productivity.  But, yes they do have food, and very good food at that.  From a wide-array of breakfast favorites to deli sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads and ice cream.  It’s easy to go in for an early morning buzz and breakfast sandwich, do work, have lunch and still be there being overly productive at 3pm (about 5 cups in!).  They also have a great catering menu and service worth considering if you are hosting a meeting or gathering.

What we like – For starters, Calypso’s has great coffee that they roast in house.  A good cup of coffee is paramount and their coffee menu runs the gamut.  The building is spacious and features private comfortable couch areas, tables of various sizes for dining or small group meetings, and an elevated lounge area that doubles as a live music stage set-up.  Calypso’s hosts open mic Monday’s and many other great evening performances.  The interior is well decorated with a very cool mix of wall displays by local artists.   The have a separate “smart room” that is very quiet and perfect for solitary study or hosting a meeting or business function.  They do rent the room out for such functions and will cater to those functions to boot.
